It's not in the notification area, like the network and sound applets; it's a separate panel item you have to add.
I knew this had to be possible. I wonder if a zener diode or the like could be used to provide cutoff when the voltage drops below about 4.8v...
The exterior port does not wire to a charge controller unless you add one!
