How does the light work, is it just a weak lantern?

This style is the only kind recommended for compact hatchbacks, and would look good on a sedan, even with the bars on, empty. The rails would be very subtle by themselves, if the bars are removable.

Maybe the Matrix rack would fit the Corolla? Don't know how much it costs, though.
