A longer one might work to extend the Maglite Solitare into a pen, by replacing the end cap. Then I just have to figure out what to thread into the other end to hold the refill, and maybe a twist end to protect the tip.
A clever design, which might not be hard to mimic! Basically, the frame becomes the heatsink as well as supporting everything. Using the hollow space in the posts might even be good for cable management.
