I wonder if, instead of recompiling the source, it would be possible to get the binary from a dd-wrt build? Could the flash binary be mounted as a filesystem?

This router uses the same chipset as the WRT54G2v1, so maybe they can both run the same OpenWRT "micro" firmware..?
apparently there is a tweaked firmware for the DMC-GF1 that can do other stuff, called ptool
This has Samba and USB 2.0, wow.
This is how to fix the problem where it can't find the IDE boot drive at all.
It seems like Comcast has to push out the update, and it removes the remote restart capability. There is a "restart modem" in the customer portal, so I'm not sure if those use the same mechanism.
